As I write this review, honest after the extinguish of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, the future of the exhibit is very risky. The ratings after the show’s proceed to Friday night in February 2009 were never strong, although it persistently ranked #1 among shows having the largest percentage of their viewers watching via DVR. The brute fact is that TSCC did not lack for viewers; it lacked for live viewers during broadcast.

I hope very considerable for a Season Three of TSCC. This was easily one of my approved shows for the 2008-2009 season. When it was on Monday nights, I watched it live rather than either CHUCK or GOSSIP GIRL, two shows that I devour. When it moved to Fridays I intentionally stayed home to seek it (and then for six elegant weeks DOLLHOUSE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, for what was perhaps the finest nights of TV I’ve ever experienced) . Although the display lagged a bit unbiased after its midway point (unfortunately correct when it moved to Fridays), it remained persistently piquant for the entire year. If I had access to a button that would allow me to settle between either having the upcoming film TERMINATOR SALVATION or TSCC vanishing, then we would never have the movie but would regain a Season Three of the TV series. My preference is based on a esteem of character development and a richly articulated account, neither of which is possible in a 120-minute movie. Besides, most movies expeditiously degenerate into a special effects extravaganza, and the previews of TERMINATOR SALVATION definitely leads one to horror that that is precisely what we will secure this summer.

I do have a couple of complaints with the TV series. I contemplate that the writers sometimes allowed it to dart a bit in Season Two. And while I’ll grant that “Sarah Connor” was in the title and that John Connor is ultimately the crucial character in the Terminator saga, far and away the most intelligent character on TSCC was Cameron. Most of the weaker episodes were significant for having minute or no Cameron. Most of the truly substantial moments on the demonstrate had Cameron front and center.

Let me interrupt myself to say that if you DON’T WANT TO BE Atrocious, to not read any futher!

Season One focused primarily on tracking down the possessors of a computer with an advanced AI named “The Turk” (the name alluding to a celebrated 18th century chess playing machine in the shape of a Turkish male that vanquished many opponents before it was revealed that it was a hoax, a chess master actually hiding inside the machine) . That apparently accomplished, Sarah, John, and Cameron embarked on a series of clues that led them to the ZeiraCorp, headed by a shape shifting terminator played by Garbage lead singer turned actress Shirley Manson. One of my accepted things about Season Two is that for nearly the whole season we are led to contain that Catherine Weaver (Manson) is an infamous Cyborg. After all, she kills numerous individuals and resurrects deceased outrageous Cyborg Cromartie to wait on as the body for John Henry, the tidy computer that her company is building. But in the season (series? ) finale she is revealed to be on the side of the angels. Or is she? Given an easy opportunity to destroy John and Sarah, she not only does not do so, but saves their lives. And both John and Sarah seem to pick her at her word. All season long viewers had been looking forward to a Weaver/Cameron encounter, but instead we peer Weaver insisting that she is fighting SkyNet, unbiased as they are. The whole area is further complicated by Cameron apparently refusing Weaver’s offer to join her cause. The fact is that at the kill of the season Cameron and her agenda remains a total mystery.

For the past year I’ve been engaged in a detailed spy of robots in the history of chronicle, literature, film and television. TV robots and Cyborgs have been widely prevalent but also not terribly complex. I deeply esteem a character like Sharon Agathon on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, but Sharon is so clearly human - even if a Cyborg - that she doesn’t really challenge our opinion of human/robotic relationships. She looks like us, acts like us, and feels like us. It is difficult to say in what principal sense that she isn’t as great as a person as any human. Cameron is perhaps the most complex, lively robot/Cyborg we’ve ever seen on TV. Summer Glau brilliantly portrays her as something both more than and less than human, something undeniably unusual and “other.” She apparently lacks feelings, yet definitely has her hold motivations. She is a machine, yet at times seems eerily human, such as taking grief over her toe nail polish or practicing ballet. She even tries, in one Season Two episode, to produce a friend of her acquire. Seeing her compose her very uncommon overtures to a wheelchair whisk guy is one of the strangest things on the reveal, including her telling him that the cancer that he previously suffered from has returned. Though she intends it fine, she doesn’t seize why her telling him something that she shouldn’t be able to know and that he finds so emotionally devastating effectively ends their friendship. Even odder is that the sudden ending of their relationship seems to have no impact on her. There is absolutely no seek information from that within the next half-century robots will open to play an increasingly distinguished social role in human life. In Japan especially scientists are working hard on companion robots for children and for the elderly. It is impossible to imagine that they will not also play a role with many other humans as friends (most people mediate their dogs to be friends and they can’t talk like robots are on the verge of being able to) and even romantic companions. Cameron is the only robot on TV that I know of that raises many of the questions about robot/human relations that will be increasingly pertinent in the coming decades. If TSCC is not renewed for a third season, ending Cameron’s account will be one of the expansive losses on the demonstrate. At the ruin of Season Two she remains a complete mystery. I personally want that mystery resolved.

Though we didn’t need additional proof of it, TSCC is yet another example of the fact that there is absolutely no connection between quality, viewership, and renewal in American television. It is further proof of objective how broken commercial TV is. The brute fact is that TV series are, from the corporate point of notion, vehicles for commercials. If they provide a platform for a colossal number of people to spy the commercials that are the economic heart of the shows, they are in the eyes of the networks tremendous shows. Absolutely bad shows like TWO AND A HALF MEN or the endless police procedurals on CBS illustrate this. I’ve never seen a respected TV critic with a kind word for TWO AND A HALF MEN, yet it remains the most watched half hour comedy on television. Thus, it is the best platform for advertising. PUSHING DAISIES was cancelled at midseason despite more well-known acclaim than any other series on the four major networks. Perhaps for fans of television the major networks have outlived their usefulness. If they can’t score a dwelling for a present as graceful as TSCC on their schedules, it is proof that TV is broken. FOX eats up gargantuan gobs of its schedule with the unceasingly poor AMERICAN Inactive while NBC has eliminated five hours of scripted TV in the 2009-2010 schedule so that they can hand it over to the untalented and listless Jay Leno.

But it isn’t the networks that are to blame. It is the American TV viewer. As long as we tune in to AMERICAN Indolent, various reality dancing shows, TWO AND A HALF MEN, and police procedurals, they are going to withhold giving us crap. I am a radical on this. I actually judge that there is an ethics of TV viewing. I honestly occupy it is substandard to study 20/20 or TWO AND A HALF MEN and that it will be unconscionable to observe Jay Leno’s recent series. Or if you must sight these ghastly shows, at least DVR them. As long as they are the best vehicles for commercials, we are going to continue to lament the cancellation of the better shows and the unceasingly continuation of critically unacclaimed and artistically empty series.

The one reason for hope for TSCC is the film TERMINATOR SALVATION, which is likely to be the biggest box office hit this summer. This past year Warner Brothers negotiated a smaller licensing fee with FOX, which was a factor in its renewal. Perhaps the film in combination with a similar deal from Warner Brothers could lead to another season. We can hope.

My wife and I are picky about what we leer on TV. There are unbiased a few drama shows about which we care. I would burn my 65 roam HD-TV before I would gape one of these “reality” or American Idol type shows.

On the other hand, we can hardly wait for each current episode of “Sarah Connor.” The actors are unbelievable and the characters are well developed. From the dilapidated FBI agent to Summer Glau’s character, they do their parts so very well. If we are out of town or otherwise not home we portray the present.

I hope the expose will last a long time but I hope, while they unexcited have the actors together, whenever it leaves TV they will earn a two-hour wrap-up for big-screen movie release and not leave us hanging as some wonderful shows have done.

I’ve bought the DVDs of the first season and will pick any future DVDs as snappily as they are available. We didn’t miss an episode because of the wonder of recording but I want them for the future. What enormous TV and what sizable drama.

Like millions of other kids, as a teen growing up in the 90’s I loved all of the “Sleepaway Camp” movies. Because each movie was lively, and somewhat over-the-top. “Sleepaway Camp III - Teenage Wasteland” is no exception and probably the best narrate from this trilogy. It’s also probably one of the best examples of a teen 80’s/90’s kitschy scare relate.

“Sleep away Camp III” has it all, hot girls, a sterling yet sadistic murderer, and lots of blood! “Sleepaway Camp III” finds Angela Baker (Pamela Springsteen) abet in the woods. This time Angela reinvents herself as a misfit from the inner city so she can blend in with the other campers.

Lilly (Sandra Dorsey) and Herman Miranda (Michael J. Pollard) have turned the broken-down campgrounds (of “Sleepaway Camp II”) into “Camp Novel Horizons.” Lilly is a slothful ancient bag that doesn’t want to recede, she’s unprejudiced in it for the money and publicity. And Herman is a disgusting venerable letch that enjoys playing cover the weasel with one of the female campers. Suffice it to say, when Angela found out about this she isn’t very cheerful…

Angela is actually a very sweet girl on the surface. She enjoys camping and working with others, and really enjoys camp games and the outdoors. She fair get’s really ticked off when people do plain things. So what does Angela do? She simply kills them in a very inventive plot. For example, Lilly got her head mowed over with a lawn mower.

Comcast recently added “Sleepaway Camp III” to their fresh “FEARnet” piece of on-demand movies so I got to see it again and got a edifying laugh at all of the kooky antics of the campers. My popular camper (besides Angela, of course) is Snowboy (Kyle Holma.) Snowboy is a fool that enjoys spraying others with his spraypaint can.

In a contrivance, Angela is like the “Borat” of the 80’s because she exposed a lot of stupidity and narrow-mindedness among teens. As Angela said, “fair taking care of business…”

While not the best of the series (that dubious honor has to go to Sleepaway Camp II: Dejected Campers) this is quiet a damn gorgeous slasher flick.

Comedic, graphic, and downright loveable, Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland, has everything we scare fanatics need. This movie fair works so well, due to Pamela Springstein’s improbable and serene portrayal of Angela Baker, The Angel of Death. In portion III, Angela has joined the ranks and gone befriend to her roots as a fellow camper. And she will have none of these shameful, disrespectful, fornicating teenagers camping along side her.

Oh no!! One screw up and your dog meat!

Whether it’s a lawnmower or axe to the head, a .45, or objective some dilapidated fashion “stringing up the flagpole”, the Angel of Death always finds creative consume for her talents of disposal.

Director Michael A. Simpson and writer Fritz Gordon, wrote and directed Sleepaway Camp parts II and III help to aid. Literally, as soon as production stopped on Heart-broken Campers, filming for Teenage Wasteland began. This film initially received an X rating, and several gore sequences had to be trimmed down to come by an R rating for distributors. However, the DVD does not disappoint!

For almost every destroy in the movie, there are the deleted gore sequences in the special features share that note the killings as originally intended. Awesome!!

The entire Sleepaway Camp series is a gem of a cult classic. Highly recommended! Best to peer in sequence!

ENJOY!

This movie is a wonderfully fun Christmas time! We discover it every Christmas season. The state is predictable but a young Thora Birch is an profitable asset. The comedy is unusual and the belly laughs are numerous. Lauren Bacall gives an superb performance as Grandma. Children will treasure it and adults will luxuriate in the humor. It is a original day Christmas classic.

Wow, I can’t occupy no one has written about this movie! Being an 80s child, I loved this movie lawful down to the last frame! Ethen Randall (now Ethan Embry) had such fabulous talent, and of course a limited crush was there…and he is so distinguished more talented now. But wait on to the movie, its a sweet movie about kids trying to withhold the family together (which is collected the case to this day) . Its touching how they included santa in there for a microscopic more area…it shows you how distinguished this child wants this (she’d end a streak to santa to ask for her parents to reunite - sounds sweet to me!) So, occupy this video!

It is very diappointing to know that this series isn’t well known all over the world as remarkable as that other family, you know, the yellow skinned family, with the naught boy whose name starts with B and finishes with a T, and his father who loves dougnuts and says D’Oh!! all the time.

Now i live in europe, so i don’t know distinguished about American Culture, but after seeing five seasons of King of the Hill, i must admit that i have near to know more about America and i have stout interest in America and how the americans live and what they belive and stand for. Thank god that they are finally releasing this series in Uk. Maybe it will finally pick up the attention and grand praise it deserves.

I noticed that the animation has improved slightly from the past seasons, and that positive continuity lines are aloof carried on, like for example’s Nancy and John Redcorn’s wreck up, with John Redcorn trying to negate Dale and Joseph about the truth of Joseph’s loyal biological father, or Hank’s father, Cotton, and his unique baby son.

I really admire this series, but the reason why i am not giving this dvd a five star is because there are distinct episodes which seem to be the same like others from previous seasons, for example Bobby wanting to do something which his father doesnt approve of and slay up agreeing with each other, or Peggy doing something shamefull and trying to effect up with hank etc etc. There are some unusual stories but it seems some stories have already been told.

For fans of this series i highly recommend this dvd, and for original comers i suggest you launch with the fisrt season. i am clear that you will agree with me that they are better than that other spellbinding family.!

A loose adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Pit and the Pendulum,” THE TORTURE CHAMBER OF DR. SADISM might objective be the least fitting of this film’s many alternate titles (CASTLE OF THE WALKING Expressionless, BLOOD OF THE VIRGINS, etc.), but you can’t yelp it’s one that really sticks in the brain!

With strong nods to classic Hammer films and the Roger Corman/Vincent Heed Poe adaptations, this is a movie with cobwebby atmosphere to spare. It’s an used paralyzed castle record, with Christopher Lee as an undead aristocrat seeking revenge against an appropriately dashing leading man (faded TARZAN Lex Barker) and a suitably resplendent damsel in harm (Karin Dor) . And if that doesn’t do it for you, the astonishing and interpret sets and locations will have you wishing they mild made ‘em like they venerable to.

(Be definite to recognize for the visually radiant scene of the coach race through the petrified forest surrounding Lee’s castle; these few minutes of camouflage time have sown the seeds of many a nightmare since 1967!)

DEATH SMILES ON A MURDERER shares several Gothic elements with DR. SADISM, but its screenplay may well have been written in collaboration with a Cuisinart! I’m distinct there’s a coherent storyline in there somewhere, but you’ll have your work chop out for you piecing it together.

Not that you’ll care; this is WTF filmmaking at its finest. Before the movie’s over, people will be walled up in cellars, thrown from high castles, hung on hooks like passe coats, gorily mutilated by possessed cats, and raised from the listless only to be killed all over again. And if at times it’s a challenge sorting out exactly what’s going on, its sleazy/creepy atmosphere and bizarre and lyrical imagery more than compose the head-trip worth taking.

Old school film buffs will simply be happy to win such blooming prints of these films on DVD. But recent converts to legendary filmmakers like Mario Bava or fans of Tim Burton’s frequent spend of Gothic Awe elements will get this pairing an estimable wreck course in how it was done in the heyday of Euro-Horror.

I am not going to review this because I have not seen it yet — I’ll say upfront that the reason I gave it 4 stars is because Amazon does not let you post a review unless you rate it — 4 stars is what I gave this company’s last release. But this DVD is unexcited a wonderful week and a half away from release. If not more, as I hear through the retailer grapevine it may be a week behind. Which makes me wonder what the hell this guy Nyland “Squonkmatic” is talking about? How could he have even seen it? His review is dated early February! Memoir House, to my knowledge, operates out of L.A. and this guy hails from serve East. Plus impress, his review is an overly personal and pissed-off attack on the company like he has an axe to grind. Epic House puts out alot of stuff that is in public domain, as do companies like BCI, Alpha Video, VCI and Retromedia, to name only a few. DVDs are not bootlegs if they are DVDs of movies in the public domain. And these two movies are most assuredly in the public domain. Notice the numerous other DVD releases of DR.SADISM. DEATH SMILES likewise saw many different incarnations from different VHS companies (as well as several different theatrical releases from gross budget theatrical distributors in the ’70s & ’80s), though to my knowledge it has yet to note up in America on DVD — probably because there are no decent elements around. Narrative House has build out alot of fun stuff and don’t deserve the poor rap. Word going around at places like the Grindhouse shows at the Unique Beverly and Cinefamily theaters in Los Angeles is that there is terrible blood between a company called Code Red and Chronicle House because Myth House establish their public domain DVD out of BARN OF THE NAKED Dreary before Code Red got their public domain version out. Waannhh!!! Baby wants its bottle!! Talk about a tempest in a teapot. I do not know any of the Account House crowd other than to nod to them if I perceive them out at the movies. But this kind of certain competitor bashing makes me enraged. Hey, Amazon! Wake up! How does this S. Nyland guy’s review fit into your “review guidelines”, especially when he (or she) obviously hasn’t even seen the DVD yet! The date they posted their review should have been a humdrum giveaway. When this is finally available I’ll review it again — but based on actually WATCHING it. I may give it 1 star or I may give it 5 stars, but at least I will have SEEN it first before passing judgement. One thing I will say for it fair now though, if this is pleasurable visual quality I’ll be tickled. These are two of my current Euro Gothic dismay pix and it is a knowing notion to establish them together on a double feature. So far, so suited.

A insensible body of brutally killed teenage girl was found, and her body, it becomes determined soon, is washed carefully all over. An ace detective is sent to the crime scene to invesigate this modern case with his partner, but the invesigation gets more complex when Jonas, the detective, takes one depraved step in doing his job. And the killer seems to know his fatal mistake.

The unique “Insomnia” made in Norway and directed by Norwegian Erik Skjoldbjaerg, is no “Se7en”-like thriller. And it is also different from the remake by Christopher Nolan in its overall tone. The unique gives colder and more sinisier feeling leisurely the chilly veil of the detecive, which is gradually enhanced by the never-ending, elegant daylight around the North Pole that goes on around the clock. Like any obliging noir, the film offers many surprises in the anecdote, making the protagonist scandalous over the thin line between righteous and cross. Sorry that I cannot yelp you noteworthy, but I can say that the acting of Stellan Skarsgard, who tends to be typecast in Hollywood films (peruse “Deep Blue Sea” or “Ronin” — though I like films themselves), is nothing but compelling and handsome. A bit more subdued than Al Pacino, he delivers a chilling portrait of detective Jonas, who slowly gets unsure of what he is doing under the big daylight.

As a film fan, you may appreciate the contrast of the two scripts, this one and that of Nolan’s “Insonmia.” (Don’t grief, this is no spoiler.) I do not reflect which is better — the verdict is very hard to give as both are so favorable. But I can point out that Nolan gets his film more complex, giving more room for the role of a female local cop (which Hilary Swank played in the remake), partly because of Nolan’s penchant for storytelling. Actually, I was surprised to bag out that Norwegian “Insomnia” is about 30 minutes shorter than Hollywood remake. And witness also the different treatment of some key scenes (especially a dog, and the conclusion of the case), which may believe the reveal political climate in USA.

If you haven’t seen Al Pacino remake, do not danger. If you like noir genre, this is the one for you.

Beautiful, current, and 360 degrees from Hollywood. I bought this disc simply becasue it was a Criterion edition which I have advance to conception as some of the best product on the market. Aside from, that I had no background information on the film. What a shock then to glance first time director Skjoldbjaerg’s resplendent and new rendering of the classic kill thriller. No, this film is not very suspensful in that the killer is identified early on, but the psychological trauma and emotion portayed on Skarsgard’s face is worthy. Add to that the stark, harsh background, captured in various shades of brightness, and the offbeat cuts and camera angles that would produce Kurosawa proud, and this is a masterpiece that should detestable apt up with “Silence of the Lambs” and “Usual Suspects.”

Oh what an out-and-out joy is this film!

As you know by now, the astounding James Cagney sings, dances and acts his draw through this rousing biopic of George M. Cohan. He’s directed by Michael Curtiz, a director who apparently could work in any genre of movie, and accomplish masterpieces. Pull up his name on imdb and you’ll explore what I mean.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Yankee Doodle Dandy! Click Here

Anyways, the film traces his life from his infant vaudevillian beginnings to his conquering of Broadway. After seeing this, you’ll know why there’s a statue of Cohan in Times Square.

The acting, as expected, is righteous, with the sweet Joan Leslie as his admire interest Mary, Walter Huston as his dad; Cagney’s sister plays Cagney’s sister…but what will bring you to view this movie again and again are the musical interludes.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Yankee Doodle Dandy! Click Here

Cagney is simply spectacular. He is a comet, bouncing around the Broadway stage. His dancing often flirts with straight-out levitation. I pronounce there are times when his feet hover across the hide…

Then reflect the songs…”Yankee Doodle Dandy”, “Mary”, “Give My Regards to Broadway” and the most patriotic song I’ve ever heard, “Over There.”

That song was written for the troops of WW I, and this film was being made when Pearl Harbor was attacked. The intention this one song is outmoded in this film, I guarantee, will discontinue with you forever. And shining that this movie was made during that time only enhances your experience…but I didn’t know it until afterwards, and it made no dissimilarity.

And that leads to the one thing I feel is overlooked in most reviews of this film: the script. It’s has a strong tale, broad lines, terrific set-pieces and delicious twists. It’s humorous as all-get-out, and heart-wrenching when you least examine it.

The movie is as American as can be…the rags-to-riches rise of the central figure in Broadway history (the Broadway musical being essentially an American creation), the contrivance his family travels to all the current states as they are incorporated…the evolution of Current York City…WW I…WW II…it’s all here!

And from beginning to extinguish, Cohan (and the filmmakers) wear their “Enormous Primitive Flag” on their proverbial sleeves, proudly and unabashedly. Patriotism is a obvious theme througout the film, rising to dizzying heights upright before the credits. Patriotism portrayed simply and honestly, without any hard political crooked or satirical edge.

The DVD, one of those sweet Warner 2-disc sets, is exemplary…gigantic transfer, nice extras…bravo Warner, again, for treating your classics with respect.

It’s inarguable: this is one of the enormous films of all time. I envy those of you about to recognize it for the first time, and I remark you it won’t be your last!

GREAT FILM! And making it to the top 100 (for the 100 best movies ever made), this musical starring James Cagney as George M. Cohan is about the life of Cohan and the 4 Cohan’s. George Cohan, wrote songs such as “The Yankee Doodle Boy”, “Give My Regards to Broadway”, “Overthere”, “You’re a Colossal Musty Flag”, “Mary”, “Off The Recount”, “H.A.R.R.I.G.A.N.” etc….

In this movie playing his sister (Josie Cohan), is really his trusty sister (Jeanne Cagney) . And on the space, Eddie Foy was played by a son of his (Eddie Foy Jr.) . At the ending when James Cagney is walking down the stairs, then is tap dancing was not in the script. Originally Cagney was to objective meander down, the rest he improvised.

If you’re enthusiastic in musicals with respectable stories to insist and song & dances numbers (that were first done by Cohan when the plays first came out and were a broad hit.), this would be a gracious movie to fetch for your classic musical collection.

I’m a ample fan of The Dim Crystal (it and Labyrinth are my favourite movies of all time ever) so I was of course thrilled when a special collector’s edition was released. However, I’m disappointed in the “features”.

Pretty grand everything on the disc is the same as what’s on the non-collector’s edition. The few current things to me aren’t worth it. Character Illustrations and storyboards are nice and all. I was inflamed about “The Mithra Treatment”, which I plan was the unique print of the movie…where the characters snort their enjoy language and not English (you contemplate some of this in the deleted scenes on the disc) . It is not. It is simply screens and screens of Henson’s fresh notes. Piquant yes… but I’d rather have that in a booklet, not in screens on my TV. Then again, the fact that it was only 1 disc should have tipped me off.

The packaging is nice, the replica of Henson’s notepad detailing the new ideas which would become the movie is very animated… but in my view, not worth the $35 or whatever I fair shelled out for this.

I’m very disappointed in the amount of “exclusives” on this DVD. The fresh print of the film would have been *amazing* to contemplate, to leer how Henson and Co. originally viewed the film. Maybe some unique interviews with some of the other players (Oz and Froud for definite) as they seek attend on the movie, its box office disappointment but almost cult success. Or even a nifty booklet with a lot of these extras in it. I disfavor sitting in front of my TV trying to read screens of information or stare at drawings which I’d rather have on paper so I can sight the detail better.

So to fabricate a long epic short… if you like the movie, score the regular edition and not collector’s. If you’re a fanatic like me, bought the re-issued World of the Sad Crystal book and even considered shelling out a few hundred for the unique pressing… and somehow MISSED buying the first DVD release of this movie, well then this is probably for you. But if you already beget the DVD that came out a few years ago… I’d mediate very heavily on it, unless you are a fanatic. Even as a fanatic, you probably won’t gather any unusual material here (especially if you beget the aforementioned book), and I’d effect the $35. Or try to recoup some of your “loss” and sell your other DVD somewhere (like I’m going to try and do) . I hope that if Henson and Co. determine to do a Collector’s Edition of Labyrinth they save a cramped more work into it. I have to say, I’m disappointed with how the kids have carried on Jim’s story.

This movie is Jim Henson’s magnum opus. There isn’t a fantasy movie out there that brings you to a whole different reality like The Unlit Crystal does. Yes the movie is all performed entirely by puppets and yes there isn’t a human being in residence. That’s the beauty of it. With a combination of an proper record, innovative (for its time) animatronics, elegant sets and cinematography you accumulate a truly graceful experience that any fantasy fan would be a fool not to miss.

The biggest aspect of Gloomy Crystal is the setting. They created a whole different world with its gain animals, plants and terrain. The level of detail keep into creating this unique world is staggering and you acquire some friendly scenes to soak yourself up in it. From the rock caves of the Mystics to the jagged spires of the Skesis castle to Aughra’s planetarium to every landscape in between. You will gain drawn into this alien world. The beauty of the sets and residence shots is only enhanced with some extraordinary cinematography and feeble effects.

Since we are essentially talking about a puppet explain brought to you as a feature film let’s talk about the puppets. Granted they might seem a bit traditional by today’s standards, they were nothing short of fabulous benefit in 1982. To have puppets act and react in such an organic and lifelike fashion was never done on film before. This is the first movie where you fetch that sort of recognize and mouth movements we have advance so primitive to with modern animatronics. Well-known artist Brian Froud created all of the creatures and characters for Unlit Crystal and if you’re a fan of his work you will definitely discover it. When you witness at the majesty of the Mystics you forget they are fair people covered in foam latex.

Of course having a truly creative setting and truly creative characters would not be enough to gain a enormous movie. Lord knows fantasy fans have seen plenty of examples that exhibit that point. However this movie has a fable that is as classic as any myth you have read before. By the time you enact this movie if will feel like you unprejudiced read a spacious fairy sage… only about wondrous and astonishing creatures never seen before. It’s not deep storytelling. Then again it shouldn’t be considering the mythical theme.

The novel release of this DVD had a host of improbable extras that made it the only DVD you would ever need… UNTIL NOW! This DVD has everything that made the new release enormous plus a kindly deal more. Here’s what you get:

REFLECTIONS OF THE Shaded CRYSTAL - Two-part featurette (Shard of Illusion [16 minutes] and Light on the Path of Creation [20 minutes]) with more new interviews from writers, directors, and performers including co-writer David O’Dell, conceptual designer Brian Froud, and Jim Henson’s son Brian. These featurettes also include newly discovered test footage from Jim Henson’s home in England.

WORLD OF THE Murky CRYSTAL - The most wonderful “making of” documentary one can ever ask for. It details over an hour of footage regarding conceptual compose, character creation, production, cinematography, the philosophy leisurely the creation of this movie and the world it is based on, and more. This documentary was made while the Sad Crystal was released so you gather interviews with the man himself, Jim Henson at the time of the movie along with scores of others interested in the movie. Most “making of” documentaries that approach out with movies these days are miniature more than lip service to assist promote the movie. I wish they would follow the model done on THIS documentary.

WORK PRINT SCENES - The unusual plan of The Dim Crystal was to have many of the creatures notify their bear language, which we would secure subtitles for, in order to further set in that different world. I contemplate that would have been a wintry scheme to spy the movie and with this footage you pick up an opinion of Jim Henson’s modern notion. Support in mind this is not fully produced footage and it’s not the same as seeing the slay product. Namely the character Augra is being dubbed with Frank Oz’s Miss Piggy-esque order over and of course there is no music or post-production. Composed it’s challenging to bag a taste of what the movie could have been like.

DELETED SCENE - Unprejudiced one deleted scene, which was the Skeksis funeral. You’re really not missing grand taking it out if you ask me. The funeral itself is uninteresting. The scene has some footwate with Jen talking to one of the Mystics about his quest, which was nice. No remastering on the scene of course. It’s dazzling grainy.

Top all of that off with a newly remastered high definition print, dolby digital sound and an audio commentary by Brian Froud and you have the unique winner on which is the definitive Black Crystal DVD. The contrast in video quality is almost night and day. The previous DVDs were grainy and the colors weren’t as vibrant. The remastering does these movies a lot of justice in cleaning up the describe and breathing unique life in a 25+ year venerable movie.

Something I noticed on the audio. The modern disk had a Spanish dub track in mono, but this version doesn’t. It does, however have a Japanese 5.1 dolby track while the unique didn’t. There is also no Spanish subtitles (something I salvage curious considering how easy it would be to add) . I grunt the spanish speaking Sunless Crystal fans may be do off from this.

This is the version of the movie to come by… until slack September. Expedient News!! The Unlit Crystal will be out on high definition Blu-Ray!! It will have all the same features as this DVD plus an weird narrate in describe featurette (I assume it’s a storyboard comparison), and two games: The Book of Thra (fetch artifacts from the movie and opinion your collection) and SkekTek’s Crystal Challenge (all I know is it’s a game in report) . Hopefully the transfer to Blu-Ray doesn’t buy out too mighty of the unique film grain like many of these transfers of older movies do. I will describe more on the Blu-Ray details when I bag them.

I will admit that some people might be achieve off of this movie due to the lack of human actors in front of you and the fact the puppet animatronics might feel dated. It’s a shame people would feel that blueprint because The Murky Crystal is fantasy storytelling at its finest. If you are a fan of the genre this movie is an absolute must. If you’re a Muppet fan… well these aren’t Muppets so don’t request Fraggle Rock when you peep it. Any fan of astronomical storytelling who wants to be whisked away to a peculiar faraway land will procure what they are looking for in The Sunless Crystal. Do yourself a favor and check this movie out.

Director Michael Mann does what he does best with “Collateral”, a well-written (by Stuart Beattie), enchanting thriller that knows honest when to be intense and when to be mellow. “Collateral” takes site overnight in Los Angeles. Max (Jamie Foxx), a ragged cab driver who dreams of owning a limousine service, picks up Vincent (Tom Wing), a slick, talkative fare who offers him $600 for a night’s work: 5 stops and pick up him to the airport by 6 a.m. Sounds genuine, but when a bloody corpse lands on his windshield, Max comes to the abrupt realization that Vincent is an assassin. He becomes an unwilling accomplice in a kill spree, as Vincent attempts to fulfill his professional obligations and Max tries to skedaddle the line between thwarting a killer and saving himself.

Much of “Collateral” is distinctly mellow in tone. Low-key conversations play out over the classical music in Max’s cab. This makes the bursts of action more intense and surprising. No one could call “Collateral” realistic, but the attention to detail in the characters’ speech makes it seem so. I have to like Tom Hover for embracing villain roles at this point in his career, where other stars have shunned them or insisted on watered-down scripts. Skim has nothing to lose by playing unlikable characters, and they will among his most memorable work. Vincent’s self-possession lends him astronomical presence and charm, while his lawful bankruptcy makes him revolting. Glide is perfect for the role. Jamie Foxx plays the film’s “everyman” who rises to the occasion when circumstances query it. He’s stressed, put-upon, and trapped, and he acts it. Jada Pinkett Smith does a nice job in a supporting role as a prosecutor, Annie, who takes a plug in Max’s cab, as does Heed Ruffalo as Police Detective Fanning, who suspects anguish in Max’s cab after one of his informants is murdered. Enormous cast, gigantic dialogue, and perfect pacing produce “Collateral” an provocative, character-driven thriller that almost everyone will bask in.

Collateral is the kind of movie for which the term “mixed bag” was invented. On the one hand it’s an immensely engrossing look, stout of high style, broad cinematography, and explosive action. On the other it’s at times almost insultingly unrealistic, marred by contrivances, gaps in logic and one of the more implausible endings in cinematic history. In spite of its flaws it’s smooth more than serviceable entertainment if you don’t deem about it too hard, and it’s certainly about as genuine a crime thriller as you’re going to procure from Hollywood these days. In other words, it’s worth watching, but it’s certainly not anywhere reach the level of Reservoir Dogs, Heat, or other current masterpieces of its genre.

The premise is a perfect example of what’s both grand and poor about the movie. The view of a top hitman getting a cab driver to chaffeur him around on his hits is an though-provoking one, even if it’s not all that hard to walk holes in. That any of this works at all is due largely to the efforts of directors Michael Mann and the movie’s two leads, namely Tom Waft as Vincent (the killer) and Jamie Foxx as Max (the cabbie) . This movie relies far more heavily on character than most of its ilk, and the success of Foxx and Soar in their respective roles is largely responsible for pulling it through its less-than-steller parts.

Of all the reasons to ogle this movie, I can consider of none more compelling than Cruise’s vivid scenery chewing in his change-of-pace unpleasant guy role as a contract killer with a busy night ahead of him. In The Last Samurai, Hover played a character who started in the gutter and climbed out; in Collateral, he appears to be having a mammoth time reveling in the gutter. Cruise’s Vincent is a model of amorality, the kind of character who’s so delightfully malevolent that you unbiased can’t finish watching. This guy’s like a more charming version of the Terminator, cutting a swath of destruction though L.A. when he’s not lively in deep conversation and dispensing nihilistic philosophy with Max. The scene where Vincent shoots, kicks, and punches his diagram through a crowded club to earn to a hapless contemplate resembles something out of a John Woo movie, only with better production values.

Mann’s direction is a gigantic plus as well. He’s always shown a willingess to deviate from the standard and challenge his audience a bit (the unusual Ali being a prime example), and Collateral is no exception. The tense, manic plotting is accompanied by an equal number of corresponding shifts in tone, as Mann mixes unflinching violence with striking characterization. Really, it’s this emphasis on letting us win to know its two central figures that makes the movie. It’s easy to miss at first, but the interactions between Max and Vincent go a lot deeper than initial appearances suggest as Vincent’s personality begins to increasingly rub off on Max. It’s easy to observe why: Max is a nice guy but basically a doormat, stuck in a “temporary” job driving a cab for 12 years, reduced to lying to his hospitalized mother about running a limo service. Vincent may be a calculating, murderous sociopath, but he’s also everything Max isn’t: assertive, strong-willed, and most of all free from the petty honest and practical concerns that plague most of us on a daily basis. And in an rude site like the one Max is faced with, it’s a lot better to be like Vincent than like, well, himself.

The first three quarters of Collateral are especially compelling, as Mann puts his two lead actors through a series of superbly executed spot pieces interrupted only by the aforementioned cab scenes and a relatively gratuitous subplot that strands Note Ruffalo (a satisfactory actor) in a rather thankless role as a cop investigating the case. Unfortunately, after building up an hour and a half worth of goodwill, Collateral suddenly turns from an atmospheric thriller with action in it to a formulaic action movie replete with ludicrous ending and accompanying hacky twist. Powerful of what happens before the final act is somewhat farfetched, but it’s at least within the realm of possibility. On the other hand, almost nothing that occurs in the last half hour of this movie is even remotely believable. I don’t want to give away too mighty (although others already have), but those who have seen the movie will know what I mean. The ending notwithstanding, however, if you’re into crime movies Collateral should suffice for at least one viewing. You could certainly do a lot worse.

“Dallas,” though one of CBS’s top-rated shows, was showing a microscopic fall in the ratings at the originate of the show’s SIXTH season.

The producers decided to add some controversy and spice to the prove with a May-December romance between Sue Ellen (Linda Gray) and her son’s trainer, Peter (special guest Christopher Atkins) . There is also the destroy of the beloved marriage of Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Pam (Victoria Primary) and the rekindling of a romance between Bobby and aged flame Jenna Wade, now played by Priscilla Presley. The third highlight of the season sees the marriage of Ewing matriarch Miss Ellie (Barbara Bel Geddes) and Clayton Farlow (Howard Keel) .

Of course, of all the characters, the dominant character is aloof J.R. Ewing, superbly played by Larry Hagman. Hagman is given the best lines, indicative of his character’s devilish persona, willing to do anything to hold Ewing Oil on top.

Woe to anyone that stands in his contrivance…and that applies to family members, too.

Linda Gray has really grown as an actress and she gets many chances to indicate her thespian skills. Besides that, her distinctive rush, along with her obliging figure, is presented in several key scenes around the Ewing pool.

With those three aforementioned major location developments propelling grand of the season, it would be easy to concentrate on those solely; however, this is “Dallas” and, like the station in which the soap takes position, is bigger and other sage lines and characters routinely seize center stage.

Steve Kanaly and Susan Howard (Ray and Donna Krebbs) are highlighted as their characters earn embroiled in a case of euthanasia. Guest star Kate Reid is memorable as Ray’s Aunt Lil.

Morgan Brittany shines as Katherine Wentworth, Pam’s sister, who will do anything (including sleep with J.R) to conquer Bobby.

Ken Kerchevel’s Cliff Barnes is level-headed as social-climbing as ever, willing to sacrifice his morals, his family, and even his girlfriend Afton (Audrey Landers) to do his situation in Dallas society and power.

Speaking of Afton, she continues to be the mute conscious of the prove, being the first to sight Katherine’s deviousness, Pam’s inability to shake her divorce with Bobby, and her have dwindling relationship with Barnes. Landers’ skill as an actress, as well as her “telling eyes,” is showcased well this season.

J.R.’s secretary, Sly (Deborah Rennard), finds her loyalty tested but turns the tables on her blackmailer and becomes her boss’s undercover agent.

New and equally provocative characters are introduced. As mentioned above, Peter becomes the “young stud” in Sue Ellen’s life. Though Atkins does an admirable job as the Sue Ellen’s suitor, his boyish looks betray him. He appears to be more like seventeen than his steady twenty-two years. His “intimacies” with the forty-something Gray almost border on the absurd.

40’s movie star Alexis Smith joins the cast as Clayton’s off-center and mysterious sister, Jessica. It is ironic that both she and Keel were MGM stars during that studios heyday.

The present would not be complete without appearances of other actors in their respective recurring roles: Fern Fitzgerald (the sexy Marilee Stone), Don Star (Jordan Lee), Morgan Woodward (Punk Anderson), Dennis Patrick (Vaughn Leland), and my personal well-liked Pat Colbert (Dora Mae, the hostess of The Cattleman’s Club) .

As far as the DVD quality as a whole is concerned, the characterize transfer could be better, befitting the state of the present in television history. If any present deserves re-mastery, it is the Lorimar production.

Also, there is only one extra: an fascinating, albeit short, scrutinize at the men leisurely the music of “Dallas.”

Yee-haw! Season 7 represents the best of DALLAS on all levels — acting, writing, background music and “all of the above.” The display really hits its tear here, showcasing fun, inventive stories that breathe unusual life into the genre, while staying factual to the series’ roots and the characters’ makeups. Unlike other soaps from the 80s, DALLAS could generate proper emotion with its twists and turns and peruse Pam and Bobby’s divorce with sincere heart, drama and even a sense of humor when appropriate. Even this season’s cliffhanger reinvented things for DALLAS, which had been trying to outdo the “Who shot J.R.? ” cliffhanger for many seasons since that “high.” Anyone who counts themselves as a fan of J.R. and company will definitely want to occupy Season 7. (And no, I don’t have anything to do with the prove or the company releasing this DVD — this is a heartfelt opinon!)
